Stenabolic, also known as SR9009, was discovered by Professor Thomas Burris of the Scripps Research Institute. It is commonly classified as a SARM (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator) for convenience, when in fact it is an agonist of REV-ERB. Its mechanism of action is quite complicated.
Rev-erbα is a protein found primarily in adipose tissue, liver, muscle and brain. It affects the circadian rhythm of these tissues, widely known as the “biological clock”. This rhythm is defined as a series of patterns that occur in our body throughout each day. It synchronizes with the sunrise and sunset. This mechanism works as a loop that turns individual genes on and off.
For example, when the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH)-PAS (Period-Arnt-Single-Minded): CLOCK and BMAL1 genes are activated, the body subsequently begins to transcribe the PER and CRY genes. SR9009 was created to counteract sarcopenia – the body’s deterioration of skeletal muscle with age. Currently, anabolic steroids (mainly Deca Durabolin) are used to treat sarcopenia, but these have side effects, especially when administered to elderly people with health problems. The theory, the solution to this problem could lie in Stenabolic, which currently has no known side effects. In an animal study, it was observed that Stenabolic not only increased muscle mass and strength, but also had an impact on circadian rhythms, which intrigued the scientists.
In animal studies, SR9009 also improved endurance in mice while reducing anxiety, inflammation, and cholesterol levels. Mice given Stenabolic ran longer, were more focused, and more alert.
